Spur MTB Classic Routes

45km Route

Ascent - 1100m

The 45km route heads off flat and fast in a Northerly direction and traverses Klapmutskop towards the trails of Delvera. We duck underneath the R44 for a spot of climbing and head to the Simonsberg trails around Uitkyk, Muratie and Delheim Estates. From here we head South and link up with the L'Avenir/Nooitgedacht trail system that takes us to the finish.

With several singletrack sections and 3 - 4 nice climbs the route offers a nice challenge without going over the top and with the total ascent being around 1100m, we have tried to taper the amount of climbing of which there can be lots in this area.

30km Route

Ascent - 454m

Considerably easier than the 45km, the 30km option follows an identical route to Delvera but does not include the climbing of the Simonsberg section. After Delvera, riders flow back across Kromme Rhee and meet up with long route at L'Avenir estate to flow back to the finish. With only 450m of climbing this is a fun ride with beautiful Winelands views. There are a few easy singletrack sections but for the most part the route follows farm roads.

13km Route

Ascent - 150m

A fun flat cruise on and around our new L'Avenir and Nooitgedacht trails with just one or two climbs that will get the heart rate up a bit. There are some fun, easy singletrack sections making the route perfect for beginners.

Gives you a discount as well!

If you do not have one, a temporary blue tag (will be taken off at finish line) is included in your entry fee and will be given to you at registration with your racenumber.

The most important thing to remember is to wear your Tag on race day! On your right wrist. It is much more than a timing tag; it is also a vital tool that gives us access to your personal and medical details in case of an emergency.

19. What happens to me if I am in an accident?
If you are in an accident on the route, you will have to tell the next marshal on route or a passing rider to call for help. There will be an emergency number on your race number. If you are able to, you can continue to the finish line or you can wait to be collected by a sweep vehicle. If you are more seriously injures you will be transported to the nearest hospital and your details will be logged with the organizers. It is therefore very important to ensure that your medical emergency contact details are correctly updated and that you ride with your own race number.

20 If I am in an accident and have to go to hospital in an ambulance, what happens to my bicycle?
The medic that attends to you will radio the Operations Centre who will send a route vehicle to collect your bicycle. Your bicycle will be put on the sweep vehicle which travels along behind the last of the cyclists. Your bicycle will then be taken to the finish and given to the VOC. You can collect your bicycle from the VOC or contact Dirtopia Trail Centre after the event.

21. How do I become a support rider at Spur Mountain Bike Classic?
We are currently looking for Amarider members to assist their fellow riders on the routes with mechanicals (punctures, chains etc.) and inform the route director, Meurant Botha of any other emergencies. You will need to spread yourselves amongst the riders to be able to assist wherever necessary throughout the field, especially at the back. You will receive a free entry for your assistance and will not be riding for a time/points.
